MATCH REPORT FOR MORAY P4/5 AT THE WICK TOURNAMENT – 20 APRIL 2013
Mon 29th Apr 2013
Although it is a fair trek, many thanks to all the kids and parents who made the journey to Wick last weekend and ensured a fantastic festival and occasion for the P4/5 team.

Following the disappointing news that we were only allowed to enter one P4/5 team in the tournament even though we had 12 players all the kids were given equal playing time throughout and it was clearly evident the improvement in the team as the festival progressed game by game.

Game one against Highland 2 was a difficult start with the opposition scoring 2 quick tries on the break but a huge effort by the Moray squad evened up the match to 2-2. A tense last few minutes saw the opposition score a final try to narrowly win the game.

Game 2 brought on a very tall Orkney team who pressed on with their size advantage to win the match 4-2. However some of the tackling and resistance shown by the Moray defense was exceptional.

Game 3 against Caithness was balanced evenly throughout with some more crunching tackles and but for a couple of handling errors could have been won. The overall result of 5-3 to Caithness did not do justice to the effort of the squad who kept at the opposition until the final whistle.

Game 4 against Ross Sutherland was used by the P4 players as a transition game for next year with the whole game being played by the P4 players only. They tackled, passed, rucked and defended brilliantly. The overall result of 4-0 to the opposition was irrelevant. The quality of the P4 play was such that the Moray P4/5 team for next year will be a force to be reckoned with.

The last, and probably best game of the group was the epic against Highland1. No ground was given and each team traded attack and defense relentlessly. The teams were evenly matched with Moray fielding the P5 players as a transition match for their move up to P6/7 next year. With very good movement and passages of attack combined with clever organization in the rucks and restarts, the match was eventually drawn 3-3 but felt more like a victory.

Overall a huge well done to the entire squad who represented the club brilliantly and improved game upon game. Bring on the Nairn festival!!!!
