HIGHLAND TOURNAMENT REPORT - 19TH MARCH 2011  by Tony Clark
Mon 28th Mar 2011
Moray vs. Highland A

After learning that Highland had taken to the field at 9am to train they were fired up. They broke our lines and were more aggressive in the breakdown than our guys. The quickly scored their first try but credit to our guys they kept their heads up and played on. On the whole our guys tried to keep their shape but Highland were off loading in the tackle and as it took 2 of our guys to bring down one of theirs gaps appeared everywhere.

Final Score Highland A 5 Moray 0

Moray vs. Caithness

After the beating our guys took in their first game they were in no mood to play nicely. They were smashing into the breakdown and turning balls over at every turn. Ruairidh was boasting his team with inspiring play and managed to run down the wing to score his first try. Caithness then came back to even the scores with a turn over after a high tackle. Oops no it wasn’t said the highland ref… Coming to the end of time Moray got a penalty with was tapped and passed to Ruairidh who bulldozed his way through Caithness but in a great awareness and completely selflessness realised he had not done the required 2 passes passed the ball to Finely he scored the try and the win.

Final Score Moray 2 Caithness 1

Moray vs. Nairn.

After the last match Moray went into the match with their tails high. Rory Miller seemed to be everywhere and managed to score 3 interception try’s Joe and Daniel were turning balls over in the breakdown by simply over powering Nairn and played with as much aggression as a Tasmanian Devil. Mouse next ran down the wing, in a straight line, to score the 4th and then Ruairidh ran in the 5th

Final score Moray 5 Nairn 0

Moray Vs. Kinloss

After losing against Highland and wining against Nairn Kinloss could only draw against Caithness. Moray went into the match with only needing to draw at best with Kinloss. As normal the match was classic. Both teams made breaks but it was Kinloss who made the most of it scoring 3 try’s to our 0.

Final score Moray 0 Kinloss 3

There were a few things to take from the games. We have been concentrating on the off-load so much the guys forgot what to do when they had to take it into contact. Although Ruairidh tried to get Mouse into the game he never really had a chance to run and this lead to turn overs.

Rory Miller really came into the game and stepped up to take Cameron’s place. Ruairidh did a great job as Captain and patted his guys on the back when they did well and tried to keep the spirits up when things were not going well. All in all the guys played well while missing key players. I was very proud of them.
