MUNTLY U13 LOSE OUT TO A VERY QUICK DEESIDE U13 SIDE |
Wed 8th Nov 2017 |
A cold day but Muntly started on fire.
From the kick-off the ball was secured and great forward gain was made.
Four competitive rucks were successfully completed to be within 5m of the Deeside line.
A quick move from the fourth ruck resulted in a very strong drive and try from Roan Phillips. A great start!
Possibly caught a bit unaware, the kick-off was quickly recovered by Deeside and their strongest runner evaded 3 tackles to score so 1-1.
Muntly then had a strong restart but were caught out in a fast ruck to see the ball go wide into space for another fast runner to score for Deeside, 1-2.
There followed 2 line-outs which Muntly initially lost but then quickly recovered before being pushed out.
However, the Deeside line-out was stolen by Muntly although they struggled to get forward movement.
The first scrums saw Deeside quickly pushing Muntly back before they learned to hold their own.
A Deeside line-out then saw quick hands to get the ball out to Deeside’s flyer and a quick try so 1-3.
The end of the first 20 saw more competitive scrums from Muntly and some quick hands to get the line moving forward.
One unlucky knock- on saw a Deeside scrum get the ball out to a flying try, 1-4.
Muntly’s kick-off was very quickly moved back down the field by Deeside with some fine off-loads for the next try and 1-5.
A phase of scrums saw possession swap a few times from some much quicker tackling from Muntly.
An untidy defensive line, however, saw Deeside score with space to move, 1-6.
A quick push in the next scrum by Deeside saw them away, 1-7 and then 4 very quick phases saw them score again, 1-8.
The nest phases all went the Muntly way with a complete team performance although too many breakdowns rather than offloads did not result in a score for Muntly.
The third 20 saw a strong start from Muntly.
A long kick but great chase secured the ball and some fine running lines gained ground before a turnover and a penalty awarded.
Deeside worked the penalty well and scored for 1-9.
The kick-off was secured by Deeside and their flyer ran in try 10.
Deeside were confident now and despite some strong Muntly tackling, they managed to find space for a 1-11 scoreline.
Muntly rallied and quickly moved down the field from kick-off, secured a solid line-out and 2 phases later good try from Murdo for 2-11.
The final phases saw Deeside use their very fast runner to secure the final try at 2-12.
The Muntly team were certainly well up for the game and saw all players putting in a good performance but ultimately caught out by a couple of very quick Deeside runners.
When the Muntly defence moved up quickly, they made gains but a bit slower in the ruck saw their opponents given space and structure.
Muntly line-outs and scrums were also strong. All in all, the score was not really a true reflection of how competitive the game was.
