MORAY U18 V DEESIDE U18 15/8/12
Mon 17th Sep 2012
Moray welcomed Deeside for their first home fixture of the season.

The Moray squad was back to full strength with a number of injured players returning and some new faces joining the squad.

The lack of time together to prepare for this match told and Deeside ran out winners 25-0.

Deeside kicked off the match and enjoyed the early pressure.

After 5 minutes they opened the scoring with try after several phases of play in the 22 before they moved the ball wide to their winger who went over in the corner to make it 5-0 to the visitors.

Moray came back into the match and a huge clearance by Matty Smith took the home team to within 5 m of the Deeside line but they were unable to make it count.

Deeside responded with more pressure and Moray kept them out with several strong tackles on the line which prevented touch downs.

However Deeside would not be denied and from a scrum on 5 m their no 8 picked up before offloading and the winger scored.

Deeside followed up with another try before half time again winning several phases of play before moving the ball through their backs to score in the corner to make it 15-0 at half time.

Moray started the second half more positively and good breaks by Raoul Sutcliffe and Duncan Steven went unrewarded with few support players on hand to keep the moves going.

Deeside scored a further 2 tries in the half to make it 25-0.

Moray’s captain, Joe Vickery and Kris Morrison at flanker put in huge performances in loose play and tackled their hearts out but needed more support to have a real effect on Deeside’s well organised team.

Moray were denied a try late in the game when a quick break by Aaron Logan from a tap penalty saw him make it to within inches of the try line and the recycled ball was taken over the line by Duncan Steven but it was held up by a resilient Deeside defence.

Moray will need to work on all aspects of their game on the training ground. If the effort is put in then the lads will regain the cutting edge they have shown in the past.
