HIGHLAND U16 V MORAY U16 (12/09/10)
Mon 13th Sep 2010
Moray U16 travelled to Highland on Sunday for their 2nd league match of the season. Spirits were up after the fine win at Gordonstoun last week.

Moray kicked off into the breeze in good conditions at Canal field. Highland held the upper hand for the first 15 minutes of the game with clever kicking putting the Moray wings and full back under pressure. This gave Highland several scoring opportunities and they took them to gain an early lead with 3 tries and 2 conversions.

Moray dragged themselves into the game and started winning ball in the forwards and getting it through hands in the backs to the wingers. After a couple of drives into the Highland 22, Trevor Jones powered over for a try. Ewan Stuart converted.

This lifted Moray spirits and they continued to press Highland. Moving the ball through the backs to the wingers was as ever Moray’s most effective strategy and a break up the right hand wing by Ewan Stuart led to a ruck near the Highland try line. Craig Howard made it through to score.

Highland came back into the game and scored again before half time.

The second half began with Highland reasserting themselves and their back row and big centre combined very effectively to open up space in the middle of the pitch.

Moray tried to hold out but Highland eased in front with more tries and reached 50 points.

After this the game continued with Moray playing for pride and never giving up. Ewan Stuart scored a try after a burst up the wing and converted superbly from out wide near the touchline.

Moray again attacked and after sustained pressure in the Highland 22 Liam Kelly burst through 2 tacklers to sore near the posts.

Final score was Highland 62 Moray 26.
