MORAY RUGBY CLUB DEVELOPMENT OFFICER |

Moray Rugby Club have appointed Cameron Hughes as their full-time Development Officer (DO). The position, in partnership with Gordonstoun School, is supported by Scottish Rugby and has been created to the further the development of long-term community participation of rugby in and around Elgin for both the male and female game to implement a Community and Schools engagement programme led by the Development Officer; deliver targeted sessions in cluster Secondary and Primary Schools and through a series of Club and Community events. Scottish Rugby’s Regional Director, Rudi Urbach commented “The Caledonia North Regional Management Team are delighted to be growing our investment into grassroots rugby across the North through programmes like these. Moray Rugby Club are strong advocates of our cultures, values & behaviours and, like rugby clubs across our Region, work tirelessly to support their communities offering meaningful opportunities for people to develop both on and off the field of play by providing safe, inclusive and positive environments.” Cameron’s rugby career began at Moray Rugby Club where he played from mini to u18, representing the Caledonia region at every age group as well as getting the opportunity to train with Scotland u17s and Wales u18s. To further his playing career, he moved to Welsh Premier Division semi-professional side RGC1404 before moving back to Stirling County then Glasgow High Kelvinside where he is currently club captain.
He takes up his new position on December 14th.
Moray Rugby Club President Fraser Andrews said “The appointment of a Moray RFC Development Officer is a great coup for the club and congratulations go to Cameron Hughes who was a great candidate and showed a complete willingness and drive to grow the game here in Moray. I would also like to thank the SRU Caledonia North team, headed by Rudi Urbach for their encouragement and support in taking this major step.“
Doug Cooper from Gordonstoun intimated “Gordonstoun is looking forward to working with Cameron both in helping us improve our delivery of rugby at the school but also enhancing our relationships with the wider school community in Moray. We would also like to thank Scottish Rugby and Rudi for the support provided.”
