MORAY 2ND XV 7 HUNTLY 55 |
Wed 11th Apr 2018 |
Moray 2nd XV lost by 55 points to 7 against Huntly last Saturday in their latest BT Caledonia League Division 3 North fixture at Morriston.
After a bright start by the Elgin side, Huntly scored the first try of the game, against the play and following a fortunate bounce of the ball.
The Moray scrum was strong but with the line-out was not quite functioning correctly and a number of inaccuracies on the ball saw the visitors ran in three further tries to lead 0-28 at the break.
Huntly added a further two tries early in the second half before the home side started to look after the ball better and pose problems for the opposition. In the 65th minute, following a period of pressure, centre and captain for the day, Joe McColl, broke the defence and scored a try, converted by stand-off Callum Witkowski.
With the Elgin side tiring from their efforts, the visitors added a couple of late tries for a final score of Moray 7 Huntly 55.
It had been a tough afternoon for the Moray side but they had stuck in and although the result suggested a bigger gulf between the teams, this certainly was not the case, a sentiment confirmed by the Huntly Captain in his after match speech.
This Saturday, Moray 2nd XV are away to Gordonians 2nd XV.
