HUNTLY 78 MORAY 2ND XV 17 |
Wed 1st Nov 2017 |
Moray 2nds made the journey to Huntly last weekend on BT Caledonia League Division 3 North business and after a spirited first half they suffered a heavy defeat by 78 points to 17.
The Elgin side started the game well winning most of their own ball in the tight and played some good structured stuff in attack, however, key ground gained into the opposition 22 resulted in loss of the ball in the ruck due to turnovers too many times.
Moray scored three good tries in the first 45 minutes of the game through Rupert Holt, Ben Roberts and Frankie Du Toit, with one conversion from Richard Lewis.
At this point, they were reasonably close to their opponents. Several injury’s suffered in the second half, however, saw the side lose a number of experienced players but this is a young side in development and it is good that inexperienced players got game time.
Although there were positives to take away, the team will go away and concentrate on defence and defensive organisation which on this occasion saw too many players being pulled into ruck situations leaving space for Huntly to exploit and score tries.
What can be said is the team have heart and to a man they kept heads up and they competed to the final whistle.
This is a developmental side with a blend of experience and inexperienced players and the Autumn Tests now releases four weeks to work on defensive and other aspects before they play Gordonian 2nds in the next league match at Morriston on December 4th.
