PETERHEAD 50 MORAY 2ND XV 12 |
Wed 18th Oct 2017 |
Moray 2nd XV made an unsuccessful trip to the east end of the Moray Firth last weekend where they were beaten by 50 points to 12 by Peterhead.
The relatively young and inexperienced Elgin side once again came up against a big and experienced side in Peterhead who put them under pressure from the off.
The home side scored four tries in each half with five of these being converted to take their tally to 50.
Moray responded with two tries of their own. The first came in the 29th minute when strong play by the forwards in the tight and the loose allowed ball to be opened wide to the backs. Full-back Ian Austin came into the line, broke through the defence and scored. Centre Rupert Holt added the conversion points.
The second came in the last play of the game when Holt stepped firstly inside and then outside his opposite number and scored an unconverted try.
The grit, determination and fight of the Moray side was always there to be seen and was exemplified in the try saving tackle that Austin put in stopping a certain try.
Peterhead had made the most of their chances and although the Moray team were disappointed, there were positives in the hard work of the forwards, the holes that the backs were able to exploit and the willingness to play to the final whistle.
A number of mistakes and inaccuracies had got them in trouble and is something for the team to work on together.
This Saturday(tomorrow), Moray 2nd XV are at home and play Aberdeen University in the league. Kick-off is 3pm.
