WITHDRAWAL FROM CALEY SHIELD SANCTION LETTER |
Tue 26th Sep 2017 |
Correspondence regarding the SRU Caledonian Shield Withdrawal Sanction:
Fraser, JT,
As you are aware we are in a delicate position next week with regards to the Alloa fixture in the Shield. Alloa again as you know are a Caley 1 level team and sat quite high last season, based on the physicality of next week’s game and our player availability it is in the best interest of the team that we withdraw, my reason are as follows:
We are only allowed to field 19 players in the early stages of the shield which straight away limits our options.
As player welfare & safety is my prime concern the players available primarily the 2xv players are young, very inexperienced and lack the skillset to handle the physicality or competing at the required standard, to that there is also the potential physical injury, the mental block & emotional status that could follow the game ultimately affecting Moray RFC in the future.
The 1XV that are available have the ability to compete but lack experience in certain positions therefore we would again be asking players to step outside their normal position, there is also 2 returning from injury.
A reschedule was spoken about and for us it is not a major problem but for Caley 1 this is a bit more difficult.
Having had a very in depth discussion with the Mark Salter at the SRU, he fully supports my reasons and accepts my concerns
We would receive a sanction letter of which I would be more than happy to respond to and a request to return the £200 competition fee ( at the end of season). The latter I think is immaterial to the emotional and physical impact that the club could face.
We would not be excluded from the cup games next season as initially thought.
My stance is : under no circumstances will I put my name to any team sheet or put any player into a game who I believe is at risk.
I humbly request that you support this decision, whilst not ideal but definitely the best for club & player welfare.
I can contact the SRU with regards to withdrawing on your approval as soon as possible to avoid any unnecessary planning for the opposition.
Happy to discuss.
Kindest Regards Baz Grimwood
