MORAY S1/2 8 – 51 MACKIE
Mon 14th Oct 2013
Moray S1/2s returned to Moriston, to play their second home fixture of the season against Mackie.

This fixture was originally scheduled as separate S1 and S2 10s matches, but both sides experienced withdrawals due to the school holidays, however this ended up benefiting the visitors, more than the hosts.

After a delayed kick off, Mackie made the most of the early play scoring five tries, ending the first period with a score 0-17.

Mackie were carving through the centre of the field and moving the ball well through the backs in well organised attacking play. Eventually, Moray found an attacking opportunity, as Daniel Cotton broke through the Stonehaven side’s defence kicking the ball through twice, beating the defence to the ball on each occasion.

As Murdo Cameron took on the attack, the black and red defence impeded, leading to the first penalty try awarded by the referee this season. But, the Aberdeenshire side ended the second period leading, 4-36.

Despite the Moray remaining competitive, Mackie continued to add to their dominance, until Josh Chapman, returning from the bench after already being injured, cut through the opposition’s defence scoring a consolation try, with Murdo Cameron ably filling in for the regular kicker, adding the extra conversion point.

Mackie S1/2 continue on their winning ways 8-51, while Moray S1/2s now have a school holiday break, after which they will return to the drawing board and they will next play Ellon at home at the end of November.

Thanks goes to; Mackie for their opposition, and to those who enabled the fixture to take place, including Andy Steven for refereeing, Tim Hurst for his coaching support, Alison Devlin and Mel Waters for catering after the match, and to Pete Bradley for the match photos.
