ABERDEENSHIRE 2NDS 33 MORAY 3
Tue 8th Oct 2013
Moray travelled to Aberdeen last Saturday to play Aberdeenshire 2nd XV in the RBS Caledonia Division 2 North and were defeated by 33 points to 3.

It was clear from the start that the home side intended to take advantage of their forward's superior weight and experience with robust driving play in the initial exchanges.

However it was Moray who opened the scoring when the over enthusiastic home forwards killed the ball at a ruck and the ever reliable Andrew McBean slotted the penalty.

Shire missed the opportunity to equalise minutes later but were soon stamping their authority in the set- piece, driving Moray off the ball at successive scrums. There followed a series of powerful home surges in the loose which inevitably led to a try, scored by centre Phil Parkin. The successful conversion left Moray 7-3 down with half an hour gone.

This was quickly followed by another converted try when Aberdeen's no.4 plunged over close to the posts.

With the first half coming to an end, the home scrum's dominance was sealed when they healed the ball "against the head" and drove strongly for a "push-over" try. The conversion was missed to leave the half-time score Aberdeenshire 19, Moray 3.

The second half began in the same vein with a powerful home scrummage resulting in a penalty kicked to the corner for a line-out. A subsequent drive allowed No.12 Parkin in for his second try.

In the 47th minute the visitor's day got even worse when Moray forward Connor Cameron was sin-binned for an illegal spear tackle. However, it wasn't until the 63rd minute that Shire scored what turned out to be the final score of the day when their tight-head prop forced his way over. The successful conversion from the touch-line made it a 33-3 home victory.

The young Moray side once again showed great spirit and potential against bigger and more experienced opposition and will be hoping to win in tomorrow's bottom of the table clash against Stornoway at Morriston. Kick off 3pm.
