LEWIS AWARDED RUSSELL ANDERSON CUP |
Mon 27th Aug 2012 |
Lewis Scott was the proud recipient of the Russell Anderson cup for U16 Achievement which was presented on Sunday by Russell’s son Fraser Anderson at Moray RFC.
Lewis received the award for the dedication and hard work he shown throughout last season – playing every match and adapting to playing in a new position at Hooker which he has made his own.
Russell F. Anderson began his rugby career playing for Galashiels and then Ardrossan, before embarking on his university studies which led to him playing for both Edinburgh and Aberdeen University teams.
In 1976 he began what was to develop into a life-long interest in bringing on new players when he began coaching at Elgin Academy.
In the mid-1980s he took up the post of Vice-President of Moray Rugby Club, becoming President two years later, during which time he was also Chairman of the Sports Council.
In his period of office as President Russell Anderson oversaw the building of Moray Rugby Club House and spearheaded an American trip in 1989 to Chicago. At this time Moray Rugby Club had an average of three senior teams playing every week.
Russell Anderson was generous with his time and support for the Club, making annual financial contributions and donating a trophy for the under-18s.
He will perhaps be best remembered for his encouragement and support for those who committed time to the Club, which at one point saw over 30 players attending training regularly every week.
Russell Anderson did a huge amount for local rugby over a period of twenty years and remained a loyal member of Moray Rugby Club up to his death.
