NEW RUGBY DEVELOPMENT OFFICER |
Mon 2nd Jul 2012 |
Moray Council has appointed a new rugby development officer to help nurture the sport in the area.
Ex-RAF serviceman George Whitecross is already a well-known face in rugby circles in the north of Scotland as a player, coach, committee member and referee.
His two-year appointment follows successful funding bids to Scottish Rugby Union, Moray Council, NHS Grampian, the Bill McLaren Foundation, Moray Community Rugby and local rugby clubs.
George, who recently left the RAF after 29 years as a physical training instructor, played first team rugby for London Scottish, the RAF and many RAF station teams, including eight seasons with RAF Lossiemouth.
An active match official, he is an SRU panel referee and referees premiership matches throughout the country.
He will be working closely with local rugby clubs and will be linking schools with rugby clubs to ensure an efficient and effective player pathway.
