MORAY U17/18 12-5 GORDONSTOUN
Tue 10th Nov 2009
MORAY U17/18 12-5 GORDONSTOUNLast Saturday, 7th November, Moray U17/18 made the short trip through to Gordonstoun in a non-league match, in preparation for the up-coming Caledonia League pay off matches over the next few weeks.

In a bright still day, conditions looked ideal, and it was Moray who settled first to pressure the home side for most of the first half.

Gordonstoun defended well, however were not able to stop Moray scoring with well worked try out wide. An excellent conversion from the touch line from Dale Smith left the score at 7-0 at half time. Both sides were struggling to maintain any continuity through the phases; however Moray perhaps felt they should have been further ahead at that stage.

After the turn around, Gordonstoun pressed well and threatened to score under the posts, but excellent last ditch defence from Moray held them out. Gordonstoun did recycle after the scrum to score wide out on the left, the resulting conversion was missed to leave the score 7-5 to Moray.

Morays responded well to the pressure and broke the home sides defence on 5 or 6 occasions, but were unable to score until a line out on the Gordonstoun line was pressured, with the ball going loose, and a great pick up from Fraser to stretch out to score in the corner. With the score at 12-5, Moray were again over the line, but was pulled back as the last pass was judged to be forward.

It was a deserved win from the visiting Moray side, but as mentioned with both sides defending well, nether side managed much continuity through the phases. Moray, with a little more awareness in attack and composure in contact, could have scored more tries and will need to improve on that sharpness over the next few weeks.
