MORAY RFC BACK IN BUSINESS! |
Wed 30th Sep 2009 |
Friday 4th September dawned, wet and miserable, with flood warnings looming over Elgin and Moray RFC. Supporters and players, as they have always done, rallied round Club President, Graham Stables, at the Clubhouse and hastened to minimise the expected damage.
Flooding has become a fact of life for this North-East club, having been submerged previously in 2002 and 1997. It has to accept that prospect without the benefit of flood insurance.
Add to that the fact that the Elgin Flood Alleviation Plan has earmarked Morriston Playing Fields, where the Clubhouse and Changing Rooms are situated, as a flood plain reservoir for the benefit of the town. This means that floods are likely to become more regular and possibly to a higher level. Protestations to the local council seem to have fallen on deaf ears. The Club has never been offered resolution of our initial objection and has also been omitted from the list of objectors put before the current Public Inquiry.
Nothing daunted a team of stalwarts have refurbished the clubhouse and, based on this and previous floods, have further extended its future proofing. The Club is indebted to all who have supplied their services free of charge.
Now the Clubhouse will re-open this Saturday 3rd October on the occasion of its first home fixture after less than a month out of action.
Congratulations to all!
