DYCE 17 MORAY 2ND XV 8
Wed 9th May 2018
Moray 2nd XV were narrowly defeated by 17 points to 8, away to Dyce last weekend, in their latest BT Caledonia League Division 3 North fixture.

With a couple of the seconds promoted to the 1sts and due to numerous injuries and availability issues, they took to the field with their team of 15 plus Coach Richard Burgin as the only sub.

The first 10 minutes or so of the game were evenly matched but it was the home side that took the lead when they scored an unconverted try for 5-0.

The Elgin side turned up the pressure for the majority of the remaining first half and were rewarded with an unconverted try for 5-5 when No 8 James Taylor dotted down following a pushover from a scrum 5.

Dyce started the second half strongly and an injury to lock Ross Andrews meant that prop Richard Burgin had to come out of retirement and play in the second row.

A bit of indiscipline resulted in a yellow card for a Moray player and Dyce saw an opportunity and added to their tally through 2 quick tries, one of which was converted, to give them a 17-5 lead.

The Elgin side had the upper hand in the scrummage all afternoon and this gave them the opportunity to reduce the lead to 17-8 when stand-off Gregor Hands landed a penalty.

Moray continued to apply pressure towards the end of the match and went close on a couple of occasions but the home side held on to record the victory at 17-8.

Overall, Dyce probably deserved their win but there was plenty effort and endeavour by the Moray side and in particular Darren Watson and Callum Witkowski, both playing out of position, who put in great shifts.

This Saturday, Moray 2nds are away to Inverness Craig Dunain on league business.
