Tue 5th Dec 2017 |
Moray 2nd XV were back in BT Caledonia League Division 3 North action last weekend but were comprehensively beaten by 75 points to nil at home against a very strong Gordonians 2nd XV side.
The Aberdeen side got off to a flyer, bossing possession, sucking in defenders by strong running and scoring 6 backs tries in the first 30 minutes for a 0-32 lead.
In the last 10 minutes of the half, the Elgin side began to win more ball and pressurise in the opponents’ half but could not turn this possession into points.
In the final minute of the half they leaked another score for a half-time score of 0-39.
Moray tried hard to continue the way they played late in the first half but the experienced Gordonians side were playing a strong running game and they scored a further 6 tries to secure a 0-75 final result
The Moray side had been without a few older heads and had players playing out of position but they kept trying hard the whole game, competing well in the scrum and showing up well in spells of the game.
This is proving a tough first season for the new 2nd XV but there are signs that the team is starting to gel, as they are all working hard for each other and are eager to improve.
On Saturday, the Moray 2nd XV are away on League business and have another really tough encounter, this time against League leaders North Police Scotland.
