Moray began the remainder of their season on the road, with a very early coach journey to Stonehaven.
Mackie had completely dominated the fixture at Morriston, back in October, winning 8-51, so the red and white hoops were keen to show that they could perform much better than that, on their visit to the Redcloak Rugby Pitches.
Moray appeared to be more switched on at the start by scoring early try from the ever eager Outside Centre Josh Chapman, but from then on the rest of the period appeared to belong to Mackie, as the visitors appeared to become listless and lacking any sense of intensity.an
The home side recovered with two converted tries to lead the game 8 – 4 after the first twenty minutes.
When Moray tried to break from deep there was little support to continue the attack, and when the ball turned over to Mackie they returned it with interest which resulted in Mackie making more of their possession and pressured the gain line successfully, resulting in scoring four tries without response in the middle section of the game.
Mackie put on lots of pressure and when Moray backs tried to clear their lines, their kicks from hand failed to reach their targets. So with four tries without response Mackie led 4 – 21.
Moray’s heads did not drop completely, as they managed to compete evenly in the last period, with Alexander continuing to show his courageous leadership by example with his strong runs, taking on Mackie in his own fashion, but with a lack of penetration, his efforts failed to produce points.
Moray showed only occasional glimpses of their potential, and at last managed to match the hosts in the third period scoring two further tries from Millar and Robertshaw, which was a reward for his strong running lines which repeatedly troubled the Mackie defence.
Moray were strong in the scrum throughout, but failed to use the ball well enough to hurt the hosts any further, ending in a final score of 10-29.
Mackie did exactly what they planned to do, and Moray were unable to prevent them attacking the wings and score tries running around the defence.
Moray failed to display a good team performance, playing more like individuals than as a unit.
Although Mackie were complimentary about the Moray performance, which included tackling, rucking and ball handling, these were still inconsistent, and it was clear that Moray were below par and now need to regroup for the match away in Invergordon against Ross Sutherland next weekend.

Moray now have a week without training before travelling to Invergordon next weekend to take on Ross Sutherland, so need to find some mental fortitude to improve upon this week’s performance.
