MORAY S1/2 36 - 3 HUNTLY |
Wed 12th Mar 2014 |
Moray rebounded from their home defeat last week to take on Huntly in a restructured match.
Due to injuries and absentees for both sides’ squads the teams were reduced to 11 a side, and with the potential of more space the score was expected to be high!
Following the reverse fixture back in September when Huntly won in a tight contest 15-11, the red and white hoops were looking to turnover that score.
The omens looked good as Huntly loss the toss and elected to receive at the start of the first period.
The red and white hoops began very confidently in stifling Huntly’s early surges forward and in reply managed to break through Huntly’s defence and Moray were rewarded with four tries scored by; Josh Chapman, George Hurst, Daniel Cotton and Ronan Walker, with three converted by fly half Rory Millar leading to a first interval score of 15-0.
The second period was more closely contested, with Huntly getting onto the score sheet with a consolation try, but well worth it, for the effort they put in on the day.
But, Moray’s tackling had improved from the week before and their handling and communication had clearly improved.
So, the home team added to their total with further tries from; captain Gregor Alexander, Ryan Robertshaw and another from Chapman.
After thirty minutes, the score was, 24-3.
Entering the final period of play Moray were clearly dominating, and Huntly were feeling the effects of the match more than their hosts as space on the field was more abundant.
Moray continued to add to their total with a hat trick by Inside Centre Chapman and finishing off with another try by vice captain Hurst, and fly half Millar, having a kicking success rate of 60% thanks to players finishing off more tries closer to the posts.
This led to a final score of 36-3. A good finish to their matches at Morriston.
With better communication, passing and team work, Moray’s confidence was evident. But, contrastingly Huntly seemed ‘out of sorts’, playing what their coach Chris Lee called “Their worst performance of the season”.
The fixture was officiated by Phil Kelly and Tim Hurst was the team coach. Thanks must go the ladies who helped out with catering today, and have helped out with catering all season, and of course Huntly S1/2 squad for travelling through to play the fixture.
Moray S1/2 now spend the rest of their season on the road to accommodate ground sharing. Next week, they make the long trip to play Mackie in Stonehaven.
