| MORAY RFC MICRO/MINI FESTIVAL REPORT - SUN 29TH APRIL AT KINLOSS! |

After all the fixture and catering planning, and preparations the rains came and nearly washed away our effort. But kindly Kinloss allowed us to host the event at their ground.
Once all of our equipment had been relocated to our new venue, we set our the preparations for eight pitches, 70+ fixtures, 11 clubs & enough tents to cover the 350 children who came from all parts of the North.
Donations to the bottle and BBQ stalls from local retailers & individuals helped along with the fund raising!
The commitment and energy was very clear to see, with heavy tackles being reported from all over the ground. With this came good skills in passing, off loading, ball presentation and support play.
With the continuing sunny weather fluids needed to be kept up, by players and refs alike.
Anticipation was evident as pool matches came to an end, and semi finals loomed. With a play off match being required to confirm the best runner up in one competition.
Micros kicked off the end stages, with their final between Huntly&Gairoch. A mixture of effort and confusion appeared on their young faces as they showed their keenness to get to grips with the game of tag rugby.
Parents also displayed genuine enthusiasm as these young hopefuls played their match. With eventual gold going to Huntly, with well earned silver medals going to Gairoch.
Now onto the P4/5s. Highland brought two teams clearly skilled and committed, and when they locked horns in a semi final, a squad showed outstanding energy and commitment, with Greens coming out victors.
In the other semi final which almost went to extra time, Huntly overcame Kinloss to set up a strong line up in the final. Highland's determination paid off in the end, as they collected the winner's shield.
Meanwhile at P6/7 level the performances continued to show the same degree of intensity, with injuries resulting from whole hearted determination.
But, the 'host' team appeared to thrive in this environment digging deep into their character to overcome tiredness and bruises, to compete against Huntly, who made all three finals - credit to them. But, Moray rose to the occasion winning their final by a clear margin.
Overall, the energy and effort put into this event was well worth and repaid by the effort and contribution of all who attended.
