 Moray progressed to the next round of the Brin Cup last Saturday when they comprehensively defeated Inverness Craig Dunain by 81 points to 9 in the Highland Capital.
The visitors kicked off, regained the ball and immediately made inroads into the 22. Craig Dunain were penalised for handling in the ruck and stand-off Struan Henderson stepped up and landed the penalty for a 0-3 lead.
In the 12th minute and after sustained pressure in the 22, the Elgin side were awarded a line out, 5 metres out. The ball was taken cleanly, set and a planned blindside move saw Prop Lewis Higgins score out wide. Wing Ryan Anderson’s conversion attempt came up short leaving the score 0-8.
Six minutes later, the lead was extended to 0-15 when scrum-half Johnny Haslam broke blind from a scrum on the half way and fed Henderson to run in the try. He converted his own score to secure the additional points.
In the 19th minute, the Inverness side made their first real breach into Moray territory and were awarded a penalty for offside. The 30-metre kick from the touchline sailed through the posts to reduce the lead to 3-15.
 Around the 25-minute mark, the visitors added two quick fire tries. Captain and centre Marc Higgins scored the first, after a rumble by the forwards and the second was scored immediately from the restart when wing Alex Strachan broke from his 22 and fed full-back Aled Herbert to score under the posts. Both were converted by Henderson to take the score to 3-29.
10 minutes later, the score was extended to 3-36 when Marc Higgins burst through the defence and added his second try after some good driving play by the forwards. Henderson added the conversion points.
On the stroke of half time, Craig Dunain landed a second penalty when the Elgin side were penalised for not binding at the scrum, leaving the half time score, Inverness Craig Dunain 6 Moray 36.
 Within two minutes of the restart, Moray added more points. A good handling move amongst the forwards took play into the opposing half. The ball was then moved wide and Anderson rounded the defence to score. He converted his own try for 6-43.
A few minutes later it was 6-48 when Haslam finished off a move after the ball was taken against the head in the Inverness side’s 22.
It was one-way traffic at this point and the visitor’s rubbed salt into the wounds by scoring two more tries in a four-minute spell.
The first was scored after the ball was picked up in broken play by Marc Higgins, driven and then offloaded to Anderson to score a try that Henderson converted for 6-55.
The second and his third of the match, was also scored by Anderson when he picked up loose ball, after a handling mistake by the home side in their own 22, and ran in unopposed. He landed the conversion of his own try for 6-62.
In a rare foray into the Moray half in the 58th minute, Craig Dunain were awarded a penalty 40 metres out. The home centre made it three out of three to leave the score 9-62.
The Elgin side returned to the offensive and finished very strongly, scoring three further tries in the final 15 minutes of the game.
Herbert scored his second try of the game when he came into the line at a good angle after good scrummage ball was moved wide through hands in the backs. Anderson pulled the conversion attempt wide leaving the score 9-67.
Marc Higgins scored his third in the 70th minute when he took ball at pace inside his own half and outstripped the defence to score under the posts. Henderson landed the kick for 9-74.
 Finally, Anderson started a move in his own half, drifting past a number of defenders but was stopped on the 22. Quick ball was moved to Haslam who fed No 8 Harrington who in turn fed Henderson in space to run in his second try of the afternoon. He converted his own try for a final score of Inverness Craig Dunain 9 Moray 81.
Although it had been a damp afternoon on a slippery pitch with a wet ball, it had been a good all round display by the Moray side who had run in 12 tries. Coaches Angus Henderson and Brian Millar were particularly pleased that some of the moves developed at training had worked in game situation and to good effect.
