| PITTODRIE TRIP - SCOTLAND V SAMOA |

What a day!! The weather didn’t defeat the Micro/Mini’s Autumn International trip to Aberdeen, although as the snow came down first thing on the Saturday morning, we did wonder if we’d get through!!
But, the trip went ahead, and the roads were clear.
All the travelling players, coaches (and Dads) looked forward to the day, expecting a Scotland win after the tremendous victory over the World Champions South Africa at Murrayfield last time out.
Once parked up, and walking round three sides of Pittodrie we found our entrance and walked down to our seats.
The weather had reduced our numbers, which gave the players choices as to where to sit. So, the front row of the stand was a Moray RFC zone!
Before the match we were surprised by the outfits which the players wore. We thought that it would have been the Samoans who sought shelter from the cold, but it was the Scotland players wearing long coats (and a protective foil layer!!!).
Pitch clear, crisp sunshine, anthems sung, and they were off!
An evenly matched contest surprised us, as if Scotland had under-estimated the Samoans. Dan Parks missed three kicks in all on the day, to leave a very tight ending, and a last kick penalty at our end of the ground from his replacement saved Scotland’s blushes, or was that just the cold drawing in!
Half time produced the inevitable cry “where are the pies”? And queueing for drinks and savouries took our mind off the match which was not keeping us warm, at that point. With all Scotland’s best efforts being at the other end of the ground in the first half, this left us to cry “heave” to encourage the Scottish defence as Samoa pressed forward.
Final whistle and what a relief – Scotland won!
Now for the coach. Of course, leaving took longer than arriving but the journey home was taken carefully, especially as reports of continuing snow from Elgin didn’t fill us with confidence!
Journeys end and back in Elgin, only to find that we had to dig our cars out to get home!
What a day! But it was worth it to witness a Scotland win, and to give our young players a chance to see rugby at international level.
