On a crisp morning, all the teams were anticipating the day ahead! Our teams had various levels of success.
The Micros enjoyed their first taste of competing against other teams from; Huntly, Kinloss, Banff & Caithness. “They did really well, and although they didn't win any matches, they also didn't lose by much...often being only 1 or 2 points in it.
All members of the team played well. There were big improvements in their knowledge of the game, mainly passing the ball backwards, getting in the right position and supporting each other in play. All players were very enthusiastic and worked extremely well together as a team. Most importantly, they all appeared to enjoy themselves and have fun. We were very proud of them”.
P4/5 A Team played teams from; Kinloss, Highland, Caithness, Huntly & Ross Sutherland, and they experienced an undefeated 100% run all day! There were noticeable performances from Daniel Cotton who captained the team with great motivation, and scored tries in each game, plus Fergus Nicol and Lewis Morgan whose tackling showed 110% commitment!
P4/5 B Team, played teams from; Banff/Nairn, Highland, Huntly & Caithness. They had mixed fortunes, but their fixtures were highlighted by a win over Highland B, and team “deserve credit as they played very well together”, showing commitment and an improving defensive ability. Ewan Ball took the fight to the opposition with a very strong performance to knock on the door of an A team call up, and Cairan Gunn marshalled the troops very well, in his first B team role as captain.
P6/7 A team turned out to lock horns again with Kinloss, after their brilliant game at Invergordon, and also played; Nairn, Highland, Huntly & Ross Sutherland.
They again drew with Kinloss, aswell as winning against Ross Sutherland and Nairn. Throughout their “defence was excellent”! There was “some superb tackling by Cameron Tiddy, Stewart Bright and Rory Millar”.
P6/7 B side played teams from; Lochaber, Banff, Huntly, Caithness, Buckie & Highland. The team achieved two victories over Buckie and Lochaber, and experienced a very physical encounter! The teamwork displayed was “excellent”!
My thanks on this occasion goes to the support provided by parents at various points through the day, in the P4/5 games, and the overall team performances from all the players, who continue to show their development, enthusiasm and commitment to the game, and to Moray RFC, even as the temperature dipped!
