ABERDEEN GRAMMAR U15 45 - 22 MORAY U15
Mon 15th Mar 2010
Caledonia U15 Shield - Quarter Final.

Moray put out a strong team in the Caledonian Shield ¼ final with 3 eligible U16 squad players and 2 players from Buckie joining the team.

Game kicked off with Grammar starting strongly and Moray a little slow out of the blocks. Grammar scored 2 tries in the first ten minutes by moving the ball wide to their fast winger after some poor tackles from Moray.

The Moray team responded well after this and fought back hard. The forwards hard work backed up by some more aggressive tackling led by Trevor Jones was rewarded with 2 tries by Cameron Hughes. Grammar came back into the game and scored another try.

The match was moving from end to end with both teams showing great commitment and playing attacking rugby. Some of the moves the Moray backs had been working on in training were being used in the game with great effect with some good line breaks from centre Liam Kelly.

Half time score was Grammar 19 Moray 10.

The second half continued in the same fashion with Moray coming out in a positive mood and Cameron Hughes scored another try. Grammar replied with a try and Moray again picked themselves up and put pressure on the Aberdeen side which led to a 4th try for Cameron Hughes.

Grammar worked their way back into Moray territory and their line out was proving particularly adept at pinching Moray ball which led to another score for the Aberdeen team.

Moray did not give up and a well worked move involving the Moray back line took the ball from Moray’s 22 to within 5 metres of Grammars line. Unfortunately Grammar won the ball back and moved it out to their winger who kicked ahead and managed to run in a try.

By this stage Moray had given everything and Grammar finished the game of with a final try.

The Moray team showed great spirit and fought virtually to the end. It was good to see some of the work done in training get results on the pitch. Areas the boys need to concentrate on are some of the old favourites – tackling, offloading and supporting the player with the ball.

Next game will be in the Caledonia Bowl.
