MORAY U18 27 - 0 HIGHLAND U18
Tue 27th Oct 2009
On Saturday 24th October, Moray U18s hosted Highland, with an early KO to allow for the afternoon home league fixture for the 1st XV.

This led to the best of the conditions for the day, being wet underfoot, but otherwise ideal for rugby. The whole game was played in a good spirit between two very evenly matched sides.

Moray opened the scoring within 5 minutes with a penalty in front of the posts to go 3-0 up. Highland responded well, pinning Moray back in to their 22 and a strong break from the Highland No 8 to the line was stopped just inches short of the line. The referee was perfectly positioned to assess the situation as Moray turned over the ball and cleared the lines.

This set the tone for the whole game, as Moray defended very well to thwart all the Highland pressure throughout.

The half-time score remained 3-0, with neither side being able to cross the line. With a clear plan for the second half, to improve the ball presentation and security in the contact area, the home side they were able to win quicker ruck ball and combined with improved support play, began to dominate the attacking exchanges, running in four unanswered tries, to win 27-0.

This was a strong performance against a well organised and drilled side, especially to leave the visitors scoreless on the day. There will still be plenty to work on in the contact area, but the squad is developing well, with some National Cup matches and Caledonia League play-offs to plan.
