MORAY U15 V HIGHLAND 06-09-09 |
Mon 28th Sep 2009 |
Moray U15 travelled to Inverness in a rearranged fixture as a result of the flooding at Morriston.
The squad were keen and looked the part in their brand new kit on their first outing of the season.
The game started with Moray playing into a howling gale but this did not deter them. Highland kicked off and Moray dorve the ball up field through a couple of phases before moving the ball wide through the backs. Ewan Stuart sped past the Highland defence to score a try which was converted by Duncan Steven.
After this promising start Highland came back at Moray and used the strong wind to pin Moray back for most of the half. Highland were moving the ball wide and ran in 4 tries by half time with Moray doing some good work in the loose and managing to make a strong Highland team work hard for their points.
Turning round at half time with the wind now at their backs Moray looked to fight back, however Highland adapted better to the conditions and kept the ball in hand and stretched their lead with further tries.
Morays finished the game well with sustained pressure on the Highland team but were unable to secure more points.
Final result: Highland 52 Moray 7.
Plus points for Moray to take from the game were a much improved level of fitness, along with some good rucking and lineout play. There were also some strong individual performances especially from some of the newer squad members.
