MORAY 88 LOCHABER 0
Sat 13th Dec 2008
Moray returned to league action last Saturday, after a six week spell of inactivity, when they welcomed Lochaber to Morriston for a Scottish Hydro Electric Caledonia League Division 2 (North West) fixture. The earlier in the season meeting at Fort William had been a close fought encounter but on this occasion, the Elgin side ran out convincing winners by 88 points to nil.

From the kick off, the home side dominated the match and thrilled the crowd with a dazzling display of open running rugby. Up front, the tight five were on top taking several scrums against the head, the line out functioned well and supplied good clean ball and in the loose the back row covered every blade of grass and were first to everything. Behind the scrum, the backs were clinical and their pace caused problems for the visitors all day long.

Fourteen tries were scored with eight of these being converted by stand-off Lee Millar. Try scorers were David Porter, Craig Forster, Lee Millar, Phil Abbott, Alex McWilliam (2), Rob Collie (2), Arnaud Marechal (2) and Ryan Anderson (4).

Moray ‘Man of the Match’ was Ryan Anderson who had an outstanding display at full-back.

Coach Ivan Scott was very pleased with the display after the long lay off and is delighted the way the team are playing this year. Moray sit top of the league, being undefeated and having amassed 43 points from 9 games. Point’s difference too is impressive at 437, with 493 for and 56 against.

This Saturday, the Elgin side is at home again and welcomes Bannockburn in the 1st Round of the Scottish Hydro Electric National Bowl. The Stirling area side play in League Division 2 (Midlands) and have been struggling a bit this year. Moray will be hoping for another good display and result, and progression to the 2nd round. Kick off is 1.30pm.

The following Saturday (27th December), there will be a festive President’s XV versus Captain’s XV game at Morriston at 2pm. Any ex Moray men back in the area for Christmas who would like to play, please contact either Graham Stables on 07803 855443 or Craig Forster on 07831 588517 or turn up on the day.
